The Salem County Family and Community Services Center operates out of two locations, one in Salem City, the other in Penns Grove.

Below, read about the services we offer through both locations as we strive to meet the needs of those we serve in one of New Jersey’s poorest counties.




Our Services

Non-Discrimination Policy:  The services offered through Catholic Charities Family and Community Services Centers are available to all, regardless of religious denomination, race, gender, or immigration status.

Food Pantry

Available in both locations, 9:00-4:00, Monday-Friday. *Penns Grove location by appointment only. Call 856-299-1296.

Our pantry is always in need of donations! Visit our Wish List tab for more information.

Thrift Store

Penns Grove location only. Monday-Thursday 9:00-12:00

All proceeds from the thrift store are used to provide further services to our clients.

Diaper Bank

Diapers and wipes can be provided upon request when available. Contact us to determine availability. We are always in need of diapers in all sizes. Call us to schedule a donation.

SNAP (Food Stamps) Enrollment and Nutrition Education

Contact us to learn more about our nutrition education program or schedule an appointment to enroll for SNAP benefits.

Utility and Rental Assistance

Catholic Charities provides utilities and/or rental assistance to relieve a temporary financial crisis or to prevent homelessness. Contact us to see if funds are currently available and to schedule an appointment to determine eligibility.

Healthy Eating Programs

Catholic Charities works with food pantries throughout the county to provide workshops on health and other support services. Call to learn more: 856-426-6363

Veteran Services

Assistance for veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Case management services, information and referrals. Call the representative for your county for information and to determine eligibility. Contact information by county available on the Veteran Services webpage.

Asset Development

Open a matched savings account towards the costs of purchasing a home, starting a business, or furthering education. Financial coaching and education provided. Visit the asset development webpage for a listing of all programs and contact information.

Prison Ministry

Prison ministry volunteers are needed to serve in area prisons and jails. Catholic Charities can provide resources and referral services to the recently released. Contact the Prison Ministry Coordinator for more details: 856-342-4106

Prison Reentry Services

We provide reentry case management services to women nearing release from the Salem County Correctional Facility. For more information call 856-342-4063.

Directions to Penns Grove Location

FROM SALEM: Take Rte. 49 East about 13 miles passing through Pennsville, continue through the junction where Rte. 49 changes to Rte. 130 (there will be a Burger King at the light on the right) continue over the overpass through Deepwater through the light (DuPont Chambers Works is on the left.

Continue through Carneys Point through the red light and around the curve to the right. There will be a YMCA on the left at the curve. Continue to the red light. At the light (Rite-Aid on left) turn left onto East Main Street. Go straight at the next light (Broad St. and Main St.) Catholic Charities is the third door on the left (#16).

FROM PITTSGROVE (Elmer and Woodstown): Take Rte. 40 towards the Delaware Memorial Bridge to Woodstown. Turn right at the light (a cemetery will be on your right) and continue on Rte. 40 passing Cowtown Rodeo on the left, continuing until the road splits. Bear right onto Rte. 48 (Society To Protect Animals on the right). This road is also called Harding Hwy. Go through the first light (Roman Pantry on left) and through the second light (Incollingo Food Rite on Right). At the third light (Broad and Main St.) continue straight and Catholic Charities is the third door on the left.

FROM BRIDGETON: Take Rte. 49 to Salem and follow those directions to Penns Grove.

FROM ATLANTIC CITY: Take Rte. 40 East towards the Delaware Memorial Bridge to Woodstown following those directions to Penns Grove.

FROM WOODBURY: Follow Rte. 295 South to Rte. 130 (bear right). Continue on Rte. 130 to the first light. Turn right. At the next light continue through the light. Catholic Charities is the third door on the left.
