Family Services and Community Centers PDF Print E-mail

Family Services and Community Centers provide information and referal services to those living in the diocese who may be experiencing a variety of difficulties.

Our application process is a streamlined process that can be quickly completed. We do not have a waiting list and we are generally able to assist clients within 24 hours of the request for service.

To request assistance or refer someone in need, call the center nearest you.

familycarelogoCatholic Charities is now an enrollment site for NJ Family Care, the state's program which offers free or low-cost health coverage for uninsured children 18 and younger, as well as for some low-income parents. To find out if your family qualifies for Family Care and to learn how to apply, or to arrange an information session about NJ Family Care, contact Christine Polit at 856-342-4196 or 856-308-0497.

Food Pantry

Other Assistance

Family & Community Centers also assist needy individuals/families by providing assistance with:

  • Fuel
  • Utility expenses
  • Emergency housing
  • Clothing referrals
  • Essential prescriptions
  • Other essential items
  • Thrift Shop (at some of the larger centers)

Each county within the Diocese of Camden has a Family Services and Community Center. Some of the larger centers also provide a Thrift shop for clients to purchase adult, child and infant clothing at a nominal fee, and may have some household furniture, equipment and appliances for purchase also at a nominal fee.

Holiday Assistance

Each center provides holiday gifts and food to help disadvantaged families enjoy the spirit and celebration of the Christmas season. Information about all of these services can be obtained by calling the Centers directly or by calling 856-342-4104.

Referrals

Our centers accept referrals from a variety of sources (parishes, County Welfare boards, other providers of community based services, "word of mouth"). Referrals can be made via phone and there is rarely a waiting list for most services offered.

Funding

All centers receive funding through the House of Charity to support the services and programs offered. Several centers receive grant funding to provide enhanced services to specific types of clients.

Catholic Charities provide vital social services to people in need, regardless of their religious, social, or economic backgrounds.   We provide social services to, advocate for, and empower the poor, oppressed or vulnerable.  We do this on a non-discriminatory, non-sectarian basis throughout the six southern New Jersey counties.
