In 2014, four of Atlantic City’s twelve casinos closed their doors. In the space of a single year, the city lost more than 8,000 jobs.
Catholic Charities responded by forming a Casino Crisis Committee to mount a response to this unemployment disaster. The team created a hotline, staffed by volunteers, and a large online listing of services and resources for those affected. Callers to the hotline are now directed to the full-time disaster case manager for the Atlantic City Crisis Committee who works with them to determine eligibility and refer them to available resources.
We provide assistance with:
- Case Management
- Financial Literacy
- Job Skills Training/ Job Placement
- Utilities (to avoid shut-off)
- Property taxes
- Healthcare insurance
- Transportation expenses related to job search
- Referral to other agencies
